Ik sprak de Franse regisseur Audrey Diwan, die 50 jaar later Emmanuelle opnieuw verfilmde. Het interview is hier te lezen. De poster met hoofdrolspeler Noémie Merlant deed mij denken aan de poster van Showgirls, Paul Verhoevens cultfilm waarmee Emmanuelle op een hoop werd gegooid in Screen Daily: “According to the notes accompanying the (…) paralysingly pointless update of the 70s soft-porn figure, Diwan wasn’t aware of the Emmanuelle franchise when she was approached to make this film. There’s certainly no sense watching it that it has any connection with its makers. Unless it’s all a big joke – if Joe Eszterhas can write Showgirls, why can’t Audrey Diwan and Rebecca Zlotowski give Emmanuelle a glow-up?”
